No sun, please!

After admiring my new shoes for a few days I decided to try them out the way I meant to use them – in a speedy little session. 5k was the plan, plus the ever-present drills. I checked the weather, put on suitable gear and headed out – and promptly realised I’d made a big mistake. Huge. It was bright and sunny which I hate with a passion (when running, sun is meant for the beach or garden!) and I nearly gave up several times.

outfit 090510I met a guy dressed in long baggy jogging bottoms and a poloneck fleece – zip done up all the way – and couldn’t believe how he did it. It was so hot. OK, so it was only 18.5°C but in blazing sun it felt more than that! I really prefer cold and rain when I run, so I guess I’m going to have to run at night this summer if the weather keeps behaving this way… If it does I know which side the forces upstairs is on!

The shoes then. All I can say is YAY! I love my Mizunos. I just need to replace the laces with Lock Laces as I seem to have lost the ability to run with regular ones. I had to stop halfway to retie my shoes as I lost all sensation in my toes which is just plain weird. Especially on my left foot – I’m just waiting for one of my toenails to fall off after being a nice shade of purple-blue since Paris

  1. Face concealed artfully again!

I did a race today in Central Park. I felt really pretty bad but I did pretty well. I wrote a little about it in the news section on my website, if you'd like to read.

    Cheers!

  3. sometimes i love being all sweat-drenched after a run... but mostly all i can think about is how hot it is and how i wish the sun wasn't beating down on me. i would just prefer sunny and like 50-60* (f of course). :)

  4. Lindsay: Yes sweat from running hard is great! But when you're being fried by the sun, noooo.... Googled the fahrenheit and yes, that's a good temp :)
