This week seemed shorter than usual!

This week has mostly been spent either looking at cars (which you need to already own a car to do, as all dealers seem to be located far apart and often in the middle of nowhere) or driving round to see people. The in-laws have fled to their summer house and have been kind enough to lend us one of their cars (yes they have one each, bit excessive but great for us in these situations) which has saved us a fortune in rentals. Still, I'd like to find a car to buy soon please... Busy like a bee, I've still managed to fit in a wee amount of running. On Wednesday I started a new training programme for a 30k trail run, supposedly The world's largest cross-country race - Lidingöloppet - in September. I've entered myself in the 15k version but with the option of trading up to the full 30k on the day. Scary! I've never done any type of off-road racing so have no idea what to expect, but of course I've got to try. It started gently with 6k easy, followed by 8k easy on Friday and a shortish long run of 10k today. I somehow managed the same pace all 3 runs, and also with the same heart rate! I clearly need some structured running so I won't get stuck in my comfort pace... Next week will be precisely that, 4 sessions involving hills, trail and intervals, and not all on separate days either. Now all I need is an evil coach to yell at me to stop slacking. Any takers? I'll pay in home-made bread! (I'm such a good housewife...) This week: 23k.

  1. hmm that bread might get moldy before it makes it to the states ;)

i like being able to cross-off training days. would that work for you? find a good plan online (runnersworld.com has an easy-to-make one with interval workouts too) and hang it up on the fridge (or something) - watch those days tick away!

good luck with the car shopping.

  2. Lindsay: Or simply get caught in customs...
Yep I do that too. It's the coach next to me yelling at me (to lift my kness etc) I need, doing speedy (ha) intervals on a track all by my lonesome isn't quite he same. Dad-in-law is a retired track champion, I'll have to bribe him I think :)
