Over the hills…

And not so far away.

Last night’s group session involved running up the downhill slope. Now it’s only a very tiny slope, if you’re skiing down it. Just over 300 m, and not very high either (55 m I think, top to bottom?). Supposedly it’s a blue and a red run, but it’s hard to tell without any snow on it…

But those 300+ m were very – very! - long! And there were two choices of surface – grass that came about halfway up to my knees, or sandy gravel that made even my trail shoes slip like skates. Plus the sun was setting just where you wanted to look to see where to go… I managed to transport myself up 3 times, but just about.

Pace-wise I could’ve walked faster I think. But what’s the point of that? Just over 9:00-pace, which is about a minute slower than my slowest (and last full) kilometre at Paris Marathon, when I was hobbling along like a cripple. And I have to admit I couldn’t run the whole hill. I spy a lovely Kenyan hill session to make that happen…

On Sunday I attempted a long run (only 15k, so not that long), in the sun but since I’d do a trail version I figured the trees would give enough shade for me not to melt. Ha. I was so wrong. Plus I got lost, and when I ran out of water I decided not to be stupid and headed home. Total distance 8.5k. I’m pretty sure I wasn’t hallucinating when I met a guy cycling along on the deserted road dressed only in a pair of white briefs…

Oh and the cat has goitre (goiter) (I think that’s what it’s called?). If he’d been 10 years younger surgery would’ve done the trick but now we’re stuck with tablets (which I have to use gloves to handle as they’re a wee bit poisonous for women of a childbearing age, apparently) that will make him as good as new, fingers crossed…

  2. DD: I guess I am! Quite happy about it too :) Thanks for the tip (again!) - keep them coming! I didn't walk down this time (only did last time due to the tropical heat) as we took the long way down round the back of the slope. Sort of Kenyan but not quite. I need to work on my technique though, it's tricky to not put on the brakes.
Sigge seems better now, after only 2 tablets! And I'm so grateful I had him insured all those years ago, I'll get at least some of the money back. I don't ever want to be in the position when money rules my decisions! He's like my own child...
