Stuck!

Can’t get myself out of this info overload stage, I’m probably kidding myself that I’m so very interesting and am doing so many interesting things when it couldn’t be further from the truth, but hey ho. Another summary post it is…

August

I was a bit (ha!) stiff after all the sitting in the car, so was very pleased when the annual Jog Around the World week started just after we got back. Website in Swedish unfortunately but basically you run a 2.5 or 5k trail loop and get a “ticket” for each one, and then prizes are raffled out. I did 5, [rest day], 12.5, 10 and 7.5k - 15 tickets in total but of course the top prize (a trail bike) went to someone else, and a 5k race (my) day 6. The “ladies” start group included a bunch of 17-year-olds, so I’m quite happy with my 14th place. My time was 28:32 – not quite 5 minutes after the winning teenager.

A few more training sessions later it was time for the Stockholm Midnight Run. Start time: 10pm. 16000 runners in identical green t-shirts… Cool idea. As usual I went for a sub-55 minute time, and as usual I failed and ended up crossing the line after 60 minutes on the dot. Aargh…

Next attempt to crush the 55-minute devil 2 weeks later – the by now traditional Tjejmilen (“ladies only 10k”). Third year in a row, and the second time that I PB’d that race, but still failed to hit my time goal. 55:41, but with a rare negative split!

Month totals:
Distance: 99k
Time: 10:55:39 (avg pace 6:37/k, just a little bit slower than my May half marathon)
Running days: 13
Off days: 9 in the car, 7 “regular” and 2 on the bike (no running)

  1. i don't know if i want to imagine how stiff my legs would be with 9 days in the car! creaky i'm sure. congrats on those races! top 20 in the 5k is great and you were soo close to your 10k goal! next time, next time.

  2. Lindsay: Put it this way - imagine Zeb Macahan running. Felt like a right idiot, but those short loops round the trails worked wonders!
Thanks! :) I'm going to beg them to split the start groups next year so us vets can also win prizes, haha.
I have gone sub-55 once but that was with a pacer throughout the race so not really counting that, I need to do it on my own. Saying that, as soon as I do I'll just set myself another goal... ;)
